Maria Linde, a poet of Polish-Jewish descent, lives with her Italian husband, their daughter Anna (a single mother) and their two grandchildren in a rustic country house in Tuscany. The idyllic mood shifts when she learns that she has won the Nobel Prize in Literature. She falls in love with an Egyptian restaurant owner and, at a local function, gives a speech that provokes and polarises. Dolce Fine Giornata is an elegant interpretation of Europe’s refugee crisis and post-war liberalism.
