Shira, a young Israeli woman, loves Maria, who is German, lesbian and goyish. Shira’s Holocaust-traumatised grandmother Berta is horrified. When Maria’s lefty Israel-critical parents come to visit, total chaos ensues, due in no small part to the fact that chain-smoking, poker-playing Berta has secretly loved a Palestinian for years. A subversive tragicomic piece, only conceivable in Israel, about (ostensibly) opposing cultures and families.
