In a deserted landscape, Simone refuses to give first aid to the victim of a serious accident, condemning him as a Nazi because of his tattoos. From then on, the Jewish doctor is plagued by a guilty conscience. He tracks down the family of the deceased right-wing extremist, whose likeable daughter he hires as a domestic cleaner. When her militantly anti-Semitic brother finds out, the situation escalates. In stimulating fashion, director Mancini shows that everyone involved should strive for (and can achieve) less hatred and more understanding.
