Gilles is arrested by the SS in 1942 and taken to a concentration camp in Germany. The young Belgian swears that he is not Jewish but Persian. Although this lie saves Gilles from execution, he is then given an assignment: he has to teach Farsi, a language he knows nothing about, to Koch, who runs the camp kitchen. Gilles has to invent his ‘Persian’ language quickly and credibly. One wrong word could mean his death. Director Perelman masterfully balances terror and irony, delivering a suspenseful drama.
